When you source precision optic accessories and tactical mounting
systems
for distribution, OEM or ODM programs, a shared vocabulary saves time and prevents
spec mismatches. This glossary collects the terms B2B buyers meet most often across four product
families — Optics,
Mounts & Rings,
Rails and
Stabilization & Accessories. Use it as a quick
reference when reviewing quotations or comparing suppliers.

Optics — Sighting & Magnification

Objective lens
The front lens that gathers light; larger diameters improve low-light performance for outdoor optics.
Reticle
The aiming pattern inside the sight. Choices include illuminated, etched and BDC (bullet-drop) styles for shooting sports use.
MOA / MRAD
Minute of Angle and milliradian — the two adjustment units for elevation and windage. Pick one and stay consistent across your product line.
Eye relief
The distance from the rear lens to the shooter’s eye where the full field is visible; generous eye relief suits heavy-recoil platforms.
Parallax
Apparent reticle shift versus target at varying distances; adjustable side-focus parallax is preferred for precision work.
First / Second Focal Plane (FFP / SFP)
FFP keeps reticle sub-tensions true at every magnification; SFP keeps the reticle size constant. Both serve different buyer needs.
Red dot / holographic sight
Reflex and holographic options for fast close-to-mid target acquisition; see our
use-based optic selection guide for context.
Exit pupil & field of view
Exit pupil (objective ÷ magnification) and field of view describe the brightness and width of the image — key for scanning wide areas.

Mounts & Rings — Secure the Optic

Scope ring
A two-piece clamp that grips the optic tube; matched to tube diameter (1″, 30 mm or 34 mm).
One-piece mount
A single base with integrated rings, often cantilevered, for repeatable alignment. Our
scope-ring selector explains fitment.
Return-to-zero (RTZ)
The ability to remove and reattach a mount while keeping point of impact. Critical for QD field use — detailed in our
ring-height & RTZ guide.
Cantilever
Forward offset that positions the optic comfortably while clearing the receiver; common on AR-pattern and modern sporting setups.
Quick detach (QD)
Lever or latch mounts that allow fast removal without tools while preserving zero.
Recoil lug
An anti-slip lip that transfers recoil into the base, preventing shift under repeated use.
Material: carbon fiber vs aircraft aluminum
Weight versus rigidity trade-off covered in our
material comparison.

Rails — The Interface Standard

Picatinny (MIL-STD-1913)
The dominant cross-slot rail; uniform slot width and spacing give broad accessory compatibility.
Weaver
Similar profile but with narrower, non-uniform slots — mostly legacy; many Picatinny parts still fit.
Dovetail
European-style wedge rail found on many precision and hunting optics; requires matching rings.
M-LOK / KeyMod
Slot-based handguard attachment systems for lights, grips and bipods — lighter than full rails.
Cross-slot & recoil shoulder
The repeating notch and stop that lock accessories in place under recoil.

Picatinny vs Weaver vs dovetail selector.

Stabilization & Accessories

Bipod
A two-leg support for stable aiming; leg length, pan, tilt and QD Mounts vary by use. Our
bipod buying guide breaks down the options.
Cant / pan / tilt
Adjustment axes that let the support track a target smoothly without breaking position.
Mono-pod & tripod
Rear and stationary supports that extend hold time for precision and observation.
QD sling & swivel
Hands-free carry hardware that pairs with mounting systems for field mobility.
Recoil reduction
Brake and buffer accessories that soften impulse — selected to match optic and mount ratings.

Buying & Maintenance

Spec sheets only tell half the story. Our
maintenance & calibration guide
extends service life, and the
OEM/ODM capabilities page covers sampling lead time,
NDA and private-label options for distributors.
